This summer, KidsTek team members Aimee Charlton and Meghan Lang had the opportunity to attend the Colorado Technology Association’s 7th annual “Women in Technology Conference.” During this day of learning and networking, Aimee and Meghan sat in on multiple sessions pertaining to developing strong leaders, cultivating diverse cultures, and actively designing and directing technology that will help us achieve more for ourselves and the world around us.
So many fabulous women from the technology world shared their stories and advice, including Meg Whitman, President & CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Not only is it important for women to share their stories, but it is so important for women to help stand alongside and mentor other women in their technology careers. In 2015, only 25% of the computing workforce were women. This number is significantly lower when speaking of minority women. Events like the Women in Technology Conference are important to boost the awareness of women in the tech sector, particularly in management positions, as well as fostering an interest in young women who may want to seek out technology careers.
