Every year, the Rocky Mountain chapter of Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) holds a local “Tech It Out” event. WICT is dedicated to empowering women in media, entertainment, and technology and “Tech It Out” is a celebration of new technologies, innovation, STEM and student outreach, leadership, expert speakers, and influential technology leaders.
Meghan Lang, KidsTek Program Manager, had the privilege of attending this year’s event and was joined by Monica Gonzalez, a KidsTek student at Aurora’s Hinkley High School. The two attended virtually and found the day to be informative and inspiring.
Many topics were discussed during the event, including 10G, the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion, cloud computing, and there was even a multigenerational panel. One of the day’s standouts was the keynote speaker, Executive Coach Jill Tupper. She spoke about the importance of calming your mind in a busy world. The title of Tupper’s presentation was “Conquer Crisis. Train Like a Triathlete. Body + Mind + Business.” She gave a well-rounded talk on the importance of caring for all parts of yourself, including your mind. By the end of the presentation, each participant had set a daily goal that they would set out to achieve for one month.
KidsTek student Monica Gonzalez reflected on the day and shared that “The conference was amazing. Although I did view it online, it still felt as if I was there in person! There was so much inspiration presented in the conference. If I see another opportunity like this, I will definitely take it.”
