This past Friday was a great day for selected KidsTek high school students. Friday the 13th is usually regarded as unlucky, but for 15 of our top high school grade-earners, this was actually a very lucky day. KidsTek students joined employees from Westcon Group, Inc. during their annual Sales Kick Off event at the Westin Hotel in Westminster.
Westcon Group, Inc. is a value-added distributor of category-leading unified communications, network infrastructure, data center and security solutions with a global network of specialty resellers. They believe in charitable causes geared toward supporting future tech leaders, and they wanted to further this cause by donating some amazing gifts to KidsTek students.
Westcon employees from around the country started their day by having breakfast with the students, then joined them for a scavenger hunt in and around the Westin Hotel. Jessica Garcia, a Westcon Security Marketing Manager put together the very cool scavenger hunt activity. Each student went around with a team of Westcon employees looking for items including laptop bags, backpacks, flash drives, ear buds, gift cards, travel chargers and many other computer accessories.
At the end of the scavenger hunt, all teams re-convened at a hotel conference room. Each student, with their bag of goodies in tow, came to the front of the room as Westcon Marketing Vice President Katie Dumala announced, “Not only do each of you get to keep the computer bag, but you also get to keep everything that’s in them!” Each student was then additionally awarded a Kindle Fire tablet!
Dumala noted, “Our theme for today was ‘In IT to win IT’…and similar to Shark Tank, we’re always looking for innovative ideas and programs. We’re very excited to have ‘future sharks’ and to help equip them for their future in IT.” KidsTek is also excited to see what the future has in store for our high school students! It was a privilege being able to see our students rewarded with these wonderful gifts after all of the hard work and dedication they had put in this past school year.
A big shout out and thanks to Westcon for a truly amazing day!
