The KidsTek Tech Leaders Gala, one of our annual fundraising events, was held this month at The Ritz-Carlton Denver.
This year’s gala was emceed for the second year by sportscaster Vic Lombardi, and included plenty of networking, live music, a silent and live auction, and demonstrations from KidsTek students. During the main presentation we heard from current and previous KidsTek students who spoke about what KidsTek means to them. Juan Vargas-Murillo, a KidsTek alum and current student at UC Boulder, is majoring in computer science. During his speech, Juan attributed his initial interest in technology to the KidsTek class he took while attending Denver’s North High School. KidsTek also provided him his first job in high school as a computer class aide at one of our elementary school sites.
We also heard from two second graders, Emily and Omar, from our class at STRIVE Prep-Ruby Hill, who thanked donors for giving them the chance to participate in their favorite after school program.
We are very thankful for the students who came out to share their experiences in KidsTek and for all of our generous guests who support our mission to increase technology literacy of students at Colorado’s highest needs schools.
