KidsTek hosted our 14th Annual Charity Golf Classic this past week at the Inverness. We had a great tournament and raised a lot of money for a great cause: our kids! After the tourney ended, we held a reception to honor the players and some of our student guests.
Three students in particular were able to attend: our scholarship award winners. Our scholarship committee had a hard time choosing between two finalist applicants this year, and ultimately decided to award $1,000 scholarships to both! In addition, if a student stays in college and maintains their grades, we will award a second $1,000 for their sophomore year.
Westin Webber graduated this past May from Hinkley High School in Aurora and will be starting at CU Boulder in the fall. He will be majoring in computer engineering, and this has been his dream for over a decade.
Janet Soto also graduated this past May from North High School in Denver and plans to attend Front Range Community College for two years, and will then transfer to CU Denver. Janet’s passion is helping others, and she plans on becoming a nurse.
Nin Aung graduated from Aurora Central High School in May of 2014. She was awarded a KidsTek scholarship last year, and has completed her first year at Community College of Denver. She will soon be transferring to CU Denver to complete her biology degree. Nin plans on becoming a doctor, and KidsTek awarded her another $1,000 at the tournament for her second year of college so that she can continue to pursue this dream.
We were so honored to be able to hear the stories that these three students shared at our event. It’s also truly appreciated that tournament attendees donated over $4,000 that day to our scholarship fund.
Thanks to everyone who came and made this fundraiser possible. We’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament!
