Scholarship Season!

Scholarship Season!

It’s that time of the year again: Scholarship Season! As graduating seniors prepare for their next educational steps, KidsTek is supporting our students both with our own scholarship program and with helping them to find and apply for other scholarships to help them reach their goals.

Every year, KidsTek’s Nancy J. Sauer scholarship recognizes some of our exceptional students. Any student who took a KidsTek class in high school is eligible to apply the year they graduate. The application window is currently open and applications can be submitted until April 11th.

In Senior Instructor Emily Tow’s classes at North High and Florence Crittenton High, students learn about both the costs of post-high school education and about different types of financial aid available, such as grants, loans, scholarships, and work study programs. Since many KidsTek students go on to be first-generation college students, Tow says, “a lot of our kiddos might not have adults at home who have personal experience with figuring out college financial aid and applying for scholarships, so it’s important for us to give them the knowledge and tools they need to succeed and can pass on other family members and friends in the future.”

These students also practice answering common college and scholarship application questions such as describing a challenge or obstacle they have overcome. “Since these questions pop up so often, it’s very useful for students to have answers in their pockets that not only have they worked hard on, but also on which they’ve received feedback and support,” said Tow. At North High, students even had the opportunity to work one-on-one and in small groups with students from the CU Boulder Leeds School of Business to make their essays really stand out.

With so many phenomenal students, we look forward to awarding the Nancy J. Sauer Scholarship to an amazing young person once again this year.
