KidsTek’s Student of the Month for September is Makailah “Mickey” Gutierrez from Denver’s North High School. Mickey is currently taking KidsTek’s Business Computing class remotely, attending three Zoom classes per week.
Senior Instructor Emily Tow, who teaches the class at North, said, “Mickey has distinguished herself from the beginning. She’s always the first to bring tech issues or other problems to my attention on behalf of herself or her classmates and has a bright, friendly personality.”
In her free time, Mickey enjoys playing basketball, watching anime, hanging out with her dogs, and journaling. After high school, she plans to study to be either a nurse practitioner or a biochemist. “I really love all things to do with science!” she said.
“Mickey is such a smart, awesome person. I’m glad she’s interested in a science career—we need more young women like her in STEM fields!” added Tow.
Mickey says her favorite part of Business Computing is “getting to learn more about the background of basic tech knowledge and pushing myself to reach for more in the sense of trying to understand how I can connect this my future and how it can actually be useful for me.”
Right now, Business Computing students at North are getting familiar with Microsoft Word and starting to learn about soft skills like writing a resume and how to ace a job interview. They will continue to master Word this semester and move on to Excel in the spring.
Congratulations Mickey and keep up the awesome work!
