Students at Denver’s North High School welcomed Aimee Meester as their weekly guest speaker last Tuesday. Aimee is the founder of Madison Taylor Marketing, LLC and serves as KidsTek’s marketing manager. The students at North High enrolled in our KidsTek Business Computing class are in the process of building their own mock companies, using technology skills to prepare business-related materials including Excel budget spreadsheets and company brochures.
Prior to the visit, two student presenters researched Aimee’s background and prepared a PowerPoint introducing her accomplishments to the class along with follow-up questions about how she started her business. Aimee engaged the students by introducing them to interview techniques that she uses when hiring potential employees and during her visit, had each student create a book title to describe themselves.
Aimee encouraged the class to find what they were passionate about and incorporate that passion into school and an eventual career. She quoted Steve Jobs, saying, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” Jobs said, “Whenever the answer has been ‘no’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”
KidsTek high school programs welcome different guest speakers nearly every week, allowing students to explore a wide variety of career and educational options. The real-life experiences of our guest speakers is incorporated into an array of technology projects the students are creating.
