Former KidsTek teen volunteer Sumeet Batra has just completed a summer computing program at Stanford University.
Sumeet volunteered with us last fall semester at North Middle School in Aurora as a classroom aide. Sumeet was an active and helpful presence in the classroom as he assisted middle school students with their KidsTek computer projects. Sumeet says he realized the value of KidsTek’s programs while working with the middle schoolers: “they have this great tool, the Internet… and Google… right in front of them: they need to learn how to use it to its fullest extent!”
Sumeet has always been interested in computers, and while searching for summer internships and other opportunities, he learned of the for-credit summer computing program at Stanford. This eight-week course was a coding intensive, working with the Java and C++ programming languages. The Stanford summer application process was very competitive, and Sumeet cited his volunteerism with KidsTek as part of his application.
Sumeet is just starting his senior year at DSST-Stapleton. He is using his final high school year to plan for the important transition to college. He is most interested in majoring in either computer science or engineering. He admits that the summer opportunity has made him “seriously consider” going to Stanford. He also plans on applying to MIT and Cornell.
Good luck to Sumeet on his future endeavors!
