It’s the most magical time of year for KidsTek: laptop giveaway season! Every year, students in our high school programs who earn a passing grade in their KidsTek class receive a refurbished laptop sourced from PCs for People.
“It’s an immensely rewarding experience seeing the hard work of our students pay off in such a tangible way,” said Program Manager Emily Tow. “For a lot of our kids, this might be the first computer in their household besides a school-owned device, and that has a tremendous impact.”
Making affordable and high quality technology available to our community is a huge part of PCs for People’s mission, and KidsTek’s laptop program is a treasured part of that effort. In fact, during the last fiscal year, PCs for People distributed 58,000 computers nationwide, more than any other nonprofit in the United States.
“The laptops are a great motivator for our students and they continue to benefit the students and their families after the school year ends,” said Emily. “We even have some students who take more than one KidsTek course over time and earn upgrades like extra RAM, which is especially fun with our Intro to Computing students since they have learned how to install it themselves!”
Congratulations to all of the KidsTek students enjoying their new laptops this month!
