KidsTek would like to recognize Leslie Gutierrez as our student of the month! Leslie is a 4th grader at Denver Center for International Studies (DCIS) at Fairmont Elementary School. Leslie started at DCIS at Fairmont in ECE and now serves as a school ambassador during the school day where her responsibilities include greeting visitors and being a leader for her peers. At Fairmont she is learning FIVE languages: English, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
Leslie attends the KidsTek program led by KidsTek instructor Rebecca Winslow, who is also very involved in international studies and recently taught classes in both India and Yemen. KidsTek is able to provide two classes at Fairmont each week; one for 2nd & 3rd graders and one for 4th & 5th graders, allowing the enrolled students an additional 2 hours per week of guided technology instruction at their school.
Leslie has many plans for her future. She is thinking of becoming an artist or a professional softball player, but her big dream is to become a veterinarian. She knows that whatever field she chooses, technology proficiency will be key to her success. She states that, “Learning to use the computer will help me to be a veterinarian because it will help me document all the animals and observe how they feel.”
When asked what she liked best about being a part of the KidsTek program, Leslie said: “My favorite thing about KidsTek is the activities we do and computer free time because I can play games about animals.”
