In an effort to better serve our students with awareness and sensitivity, KidsTek Program Specialist Carolyn Matthews attended “Childhood Interrupted: A Developmentally-Informed, Biologically Respectful Approach” presented by Mile High United Way. Jerry Yager, PsyD., discussed how a child’s cognitive development is affected by trauma such as abuse or neglect and the practical approaches to help restore critical developmental pathways in the child’s brain. Carolyn attended the training in response to the recent tragic events in Aurora, and plans to use the training to help lead KidsTek instructors to develop caring and professional relationships with their students.
