“We know this! Ms. Michelle showed us!” KidsTek students at Aurora’s Sable Elementary School have an advantage in their daytime computer classes thanks to great instruction from Michelle Lovato. Recently, their school’s computer teacher began teaching a PowerPoint lesson and the COMPASS students ere one step ahead of the game since they created slideshows in KidsTek’s after school classes. Elementary and middle school KidsTek lasses focus on project-based learning using Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet research to equip them with lifelong computer skills. The trick to teaching these skills after school is keeping it fun. Ms. Lindsay’s elementary classes are making door hangers in Word. At the end of the session, each student will print their “Keep out! Jose’s Room!” door hangers but they will also walk away knowing how to find pictures in ClipArt, how to copy and paste, how to save their work and many other computer skills.
