Every year, KidsTek awards a scholarship to at least one of our amazing graduating seniors. In previous years, the public announcement was made at our annual golf tournament, complete with a giant check for the winner. This year, as graduates head off into a world full of uncertainty, our winners still got to enjoy their moment with the giant check, just from a distance this time. Last week, the scholarship winners, along with KidsTek staff, board, and the scholarship committee celebrated via Zoom call, with the giant check making a special cameo courtesy of Rich Liner, KidsTek Board Chair.
This year’s scholarship winner is Polo Aguirre from Aurora’s Hinkley High School and the runner-up winner is Janae Castro from Denver’s Florence Crittenton High School. Polo plans to study computer science at CU Denver, starting with the summer session next month, while Janae will study to be a dental hygienist at Community College of Denver.
“These KidsTek students have more challenges in life and education than most, and we are thrilled to be able to offer these scholarships to support them as they continue their education,” said Cindy Miller, who leads the scholarship committee. “Our scholarship applicants consistently cite the encouragement, industry/career insight, and soft skills they gain from the KidsTek teachers and the program as key to their decision to pursue bigger goals than they had before.”
Congratulations to Polo and Janae as they continue their educational journey! We expect great things from them in the future.
