KidsTek is thrilled to announce that Casey McCoy has just joined our team! Casey received a Bachelor of Science degree in Media and Cinema Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After receiving this degree she worked briefly as an academic advisor on campus in the School of Chemical Sciences to help incoming freshman and transfer students set up their classes and get oriented to college life. Working with young adults inspired her to go back to get her Master of Science in Library and Information Science. Casey arrived to Colorado about a year ago from San Jose, California where she was most recently a STEAM Librarian at San Jose Public Library. In this position, she helped launch a mobile maker space that brought Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math programs out into the community and local schools. Casey grew passionate about using technology to engage the community, and eventually this passion lead her to KidsTek.
Casey lives in Louisville, Colorado with her fiancé, Connor, her two year old Whippet, Arya, and her feisty cat named Mack. She is originally from Austin, Texas, but has lived the majority of her life in central Illinois. Casey eventually attended the University of Illinois, where she met her fiancé – Go Fighting Illini! Some things that Casey enjoys doing in her free time are exploring new restaurants, watching movies and TV shows, crocheting, and whether she likes it or not- planning for her upcoming wedding in Chicago! She not only took on an interest of reading in her career, but she is also an avid reader in her free time. A couple of her favorite authors are Marie Lu and Maggie Stifvater. Casey is also active in the American Library Association, which is a national professional development organization. She is currently the Fundraising Committee Chair for the GLBTRT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Round Table) in this organization.
As a Program Specialist, Casey will be responsible for KidsTek programs at: Eagleton Elementary, Colfax Elementary, STRIVE Prep Ruby Hill, STEM Launch, Pennington Elementary, Wyatt Academy, and North High School in Denver. Her direct experience with students of all ages throughout her career thus far will be a great asset as she transitions into this new role. Not only will she get to directly influence the students at each of these sites, but Casey will be a resource to the KidsTek instructors at each respective school to provide support in and out of the classroom. Casey shared that “She is excited to bring her passion for technology and community engagement to the KidsTek team as the new Program Specialist!” KidsTek is proud to bring Casey on with such a unique set of skills and exciting new perspective.
