At KidsTek, we strive to educate the “whole” student. To do this, we implement various teaching methods, allow students to express their creativity, and do our best to make learning engaging and fun. One practice that we use is called social and emotional learning (SEL.)
“Social and emotional learning is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.” Our instructors apply this definition to their lessons, and since technology plays a major role in SEL, KidsTek is already one step ahead of the game.
By using different technologies, students are able to personalize and self-direct their learning. Our instructors are able to track student progress on projects and special activities. The use of educational games and creative freedom during our classes helps to build agency in our students so that they can continue learning on their own long after they have left a KidsTek.
