KidsTek participated in the 3rd annual STEMosphere Expo this past weekend. Students, families and educators from throughout the state convened at the University of Denver, to explore a variety of hands-on STEM-oriented interactive exhibits.
STEMosphere is a free event open to anyone who wants to explore, invent, and experiment with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities. This year’s STEMosphere highlighted the most innovative and creative organizations in the state, with interactive booths featuring everything from First Robotics, to the Denver Zoo and of course: KidsTek.
Visitors to the KidsTek booth engaged in a timed challenge using a modified Twister mat. The only instructions given were that they needed to touch the numbers 1-10 in order as fast as they could, either individually or in a team. The results were then entered by school and put into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet where the contestants were immediately able to see their average time and standing against other Colorado schools. Congratulations to “Team 3” from STEM Launch School from Thornton who led the day with average time of 2.06 seconds! This fun activity was taken from a KidsTek classroom lesson designed to introduce students to the different features of Excel spreadsheets, including averaging, sorting and graphing tools.
As always, KidsTek would like to thank Carrie Morgridge and the Morgridge Family Foundation for holding this annual event that is so beneficial to our community.
