We are excited to be in our 4th year serving William C. Hinkley High School in Aurora! Things are going great so far this fall semester, and this Monday the students learned how to terminate network cable with a guest lesson by KidsTek Program Director Andrew Bissland. Cable making requires patience, steady hands and attention to detail. The students really enjoyed being able to do a hands-on activity to have a better understanding about the hardware side of IT.
The students are currently taking two-dual enrolled college courses this fall semester, earning free college credit through the Community College of Aurora. The classes they are taking are “Intro to Computer Systems” and “Intro to Computer Networking.” For the spring semester, the students will take the challenging “Networking+” course which will prepare them to take the Net+ certification exam. We are thrilled to be able to partner with Community College of Aurora in order to offer up to nine college credits to these high school students for the 2014-2015 school year!
September’s Student of the Month is from Hinkley High School. Jared Dolan is a high school senior who first became interested in our computer elective class because he said he has always wanted a better understanding of computer technology. He thought the class would be helpful for when he graduates and plans on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Colorado-Denver. You can read more about Jared, and the rest of our Student All-Stars here
Keep up the good work Hinkley students!
