Each year, KidsTek offers a certification program to students enrolled in our “Introduction to Computing” classes. The IC3 Certification stands for “Internet and Computing Core Certification” and is an exam that measures computer literacy in computer hardware, software, and the internet. This year, despite teaching our classes remotely, we still wanted to provide students with the opportunity to earn certifications that can be added to their resumes. Certiport, the testing company that hosts the IC3 exam, adapted to the current situation and prepared a system for students to take tests remotely at home.
During the last two months, four students in the KidsTek class at Aurora’s Hinkley High School have been able to earn IC3 certifications. KidsTek Program Manager, Meghan Lang, is one of our online proctors and was able to guide students through these exams from her own home in a virtual environment.
“Due to not being able to be in person, we did not know if it would be realistic to expect our students to work toward certifications this year. Once Certiport provided the option of their “Exams from Home” we have been so pleasantly surprised at the amount of students willing to invest extra time in earning this certification.” KidsTek is so proud of our hardworking students who continue to push themselves to achieve, despite the many challenges of this school year.
