It’s that time again! COMPASS after school programs have launched this week in Aurora for the 2014-2015 school year. We are so fortunate to have been able to serve COMPASS for over seven years now. It’s inspiring to see what impact has been made on the community through this collaborative effort between the City of Aurora and Aurora Public Schools.
COMPASS stands for a Community of Many Providing After School Success. COMPASS providers like KidsTek create a structured, supervised environment during the after school hours. After school programs have been shown to lead students toward improved attitudes toward school, better study habits, increased attendance and improved grades. The various enrichment activities offered by COMPASS, including music, arts, sports, and technology programs help students explore a variety of interests during their formative years.
Through the COMPASS program, KidsTek offers 11 computer literacy programs at 9 sites: four Aurora elementary schools, five middle schools and one high school. This includes a computing class we offer to the parents of COMPASS elementary students. Here at KidsTek, we are all so grateful for COMPASS because of how much the program has enabled us to increase our reach and impact students at Aurora’s highest needs schools.
