This summer, KidsTek still wanted to offer opportunities to high schoolers, and in light of the current circumstances, we conducted our “KidsTek High School Summer Camp” this year online. This camp for Aurora students recently ended with an outdoor culmination celebration at Del Mar Park. At this “graduation” ceremony, students wore masks and socially distanced while receiving their very own laptop that they had earned through active participation in the camp.
Even though it was a different sort of laptop ceremony than KidsTek typically holds, it was a special experience. Once students and their families gathered, Program Director Andrew Bissland gave a small announcement of ways to further get involved with KidsTek and thanked them all for being a part of KidsTek’s first online summer camp.
Included in the laptop giveaway was also the announcement of which students in the class received certifications from the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau, for taking part in their LIFT Ethics Curriculum during the camp. In addition to this curriculum, students also wrote resumes and learned about job hunting during the camp.
As the gathering drew to a close, students commented on the sense of purpose that this class gave them during this time. They were happy to see some of their classmates, even from a distance. It was truly a celebration, and KidsTek is grateful to the group of students who helped make this year’s summer camp a success!
