The Nancy J. Sauer Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior in KidsTek programs. This is the third year that KidsTek has awarded the scholarship, in memory of our Board Chair Nancy Sauer, who was a tremendous inspiration to all of us at KidsTek. Nancy lost her battle with cancer in 2012 and the award was created to honor her legacy.
The KidsTek Scholarship awards $1,000 for use at an accredited institution of higher education. If the recipient does well during their first year at college, a second $1,000 will be awarded to the student for their sophomore year.
This year’s applicants answered questions regarding their academic performance, personal challenges and future aspirations. In the end, our scholarship committee could not decide between their two finalists. The four committee members ultimately decided to dig into their own pockets so that both finalists could be given the award!
This year’s winners are:
Westin Weber – a student at Aurora’s Hinkley High School, who has attended our classes for the past two years, and has shown a lot of talent with technology.
Janet Soto – a senior at Denver’s North High, who attended our Business Computing class last school year, and plans on a career in nursing.
We are very honored to be able to help these two students continue their academic careers, and gratified by this year’s scholarship committee, whose generosity extended to awarding two scholarships!
