Programs
Thousands of underprivileged children have benefited from our after-school programs to gain a hands-on working knowledge of those computer programs that are a staple of today’s workplace. KidsTek is helping them gain a foothold on the “right side” of the Digital Divide.
KidsTek teaches the Microsoft Office suite, Google applications and state-of-the-art multimedia through fun and passion-inducing projects so kids immediately see the benefits. Lessons are based on the National Educational Technology Standards, NETS, that serves as a roadmap for improved teaching and learning.
KidsTek leverages the existing computer resources already in most schools to offer cost-effective after school technical instruction.
All of this is tuition-free for students in The Denver and Aurora Public Schools and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Larimer County. Operating costs currently run $5.63 per hour for each child, with a total average monthly participation rate of 1000 students. In 2008 there were 1249 unduplicated attendees. Most attend after-school classes three hours each week. In 2007 KidsTek began a rewards program where some students earn their own home computers through the Jared Polis Foundation’s Community Computer Connection Program.

Another happy Computer Winner. See all the winners.
